John's crew (left side - front left to right) was Chuck Schnorenberg , navigator; Earl Johns, pilot; SSgt Joe Melton, gunner; and three unknown aircraft mechanics. The six people standing (left rear) are EWOs: Ed Malone, Jerry Welkom, Buck Wade and Jack Knoeppel. Next to Jack are Ed Breck* and an unknown sergeant that worked in the ELINT Analysis shop.

Stamm's crew on the right (standing - left to right) are EWOs: Dave Smiley, Roy Fair, Tom Sterling** and Paul Duplessis. Right front is navigator Mike Barbolla***, pilot Bob Stamm and gunner SSgt Charles Floyd.

Stamm's Form 5 shows flying 6+35 hours on 14 April '60 and 3+30 on the 15th. First leg was to Lajes AB, Azores on 14th and second leg to the Chelveston AB, UK on the 15th.

* Ed Breck was killed in a motorcycle accident outside of Takhli RTAFB, Thailand

** Tom Sterling was shot down in over North Vietnam while on a Wild Weasel mission, became a POW and later released.

*** Mike Barbola was lost at sea when his EC-131 went down. He was getting his monthly four hours while going to school in Massachusetts after leaving Shaw.


This 1962 photo of all the glum faces (the tech rep is the only guy smiling) was in B/G Aynesworth's office at Shaw AFB, SC after receiving flying hour plaques (500, 1000 or something). From the left is Col MacCartan, Clifford "Polly" Parrott (Douglas tech rep), Robert Logan, Vaughn Sowers, Austin Ayotte, Bernie Hollander, Paul Bjork, Jimmie Byram, Frank Kelley, Robert Stamm, Richard Chapple, and Paul Duplessis.
